Buhari Urges Parents To Guide Their Children Who Bring Looted Goods

- Parents have been warned against pampering their wards when they bring home unaccounted and stolen goods

 - President Muhammadu Buhari who made this admonition said looting and destruction would not be condoned under any guise

 - The president also called for all hands to be on deck, vowing that looters and hoodlums would soon be brought to book 

President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a stern warning to the parents and guardians of those who have been continually looting private businesses and government properties under the guise of protest. The president, in a statement on Sunday, October 25, urged the parents to warn their wards against destruction and stealing of goods they cannot account for.

Buhari's admonition, which became necessary amid wanton destruction, looting and pocket of violence which the country is witnessing, came on the heels of the federal government's readiness to respond to the demands of the EndSARS protesters and current unrest.

It would be recalled that since Wednesday, October 21, many private businesses, public facilities including the Covi-19 warehouses in some states have been looted dry by hoodlums.

Credit: Twitter (Giditraffic) Source: Twitter The unfortunate trend, which began with the attack on the Covid-19 warehouses in Maza-maza in Lagos state, has seen some of the hoodlums descend on stores and shops owned by private individuals. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Lagos state government had said it would need a trillion naira to rebuild the destroyed facilities and compensate the affected properties owners. With security operatives set on the move, Buhari called for all hands to be on deck and similarly urged the parents to warn their kids. He said:

 

"Families must turn back children who bring home unaccounted goods, in the same way, wives must ask their husbands to return looted items brought home.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed Adamu, the inspector general of police, has given a fresh order for the immediate mobilisation of all police operational assets and resources amid wanton destruction of facilities by hoodlums.

The was contained in a statement released and signed by the force spokesperson, DCP Frank Mba, on Saturday night, October 24. IGP Adamu also ordered all the officers to "dominate the public space and ensure peace and safety in the affected areas." While condemning the indiscriminate looting of shops, malls and warehouses, the police boss maintained that "enough is enough."
